We know that a robust Turkish wool Kilim requires a completely different chemistry to a delicate Chinese silk tapestry. Silk, in particular, is a protein fibre that demands respect. It loses strength when wet and is highly sensitive to harsh alkalines; one wrong move with standard cleaning fluids can permanently strip its natural lustre.

That is why every wash at our studio is bespoke. We tailor our method strictly to the fibre. For your silk pieces, we utilise a specialist pH-neutral, low-temperature process designed to lift soil without swelling the delicate threads. We then hand-groom the pile to restore that signature ‘shimmer’ and velvet-soft feel that defines a true luxury textile.

Our Conservation Methodology

Every Oriental rug has a unique provenance and constitution. Our process is strictly tailored to the specific fibre—whether robust wool or delicate silk:

Fugitive Dye Testing: Before cleaning, we microscopically test the dyes to determine stability. This prevents colour migration and ensures patterns remain crisp and defined.

Harmonic Dust Extraction: We use specialised vibration and air-flow technology to remove abrasive dry soil deep within the foundation—grit that vacuuming misses and that acts like a saw against the fibres.

Fibre-Specific Washing: We reject harsh chemicals and high-heat steam. For Wool, we use immersion washes that preserve natural lanolin. For Silk, we utilise a pH-neutral, cool-temperature process that protects the protein structure and restores the rug's natural lustre.

Hand-Detailed Fringe: We restore the brightness of the fringe by hand, removing greying and tangles without using damaging bleaches that rot the cotton.

Controlled Drying & Blocking: Rugs are dried in a climate-controlled environment to prevent shrinkage. We "block" (shape) the rug while damp to ensure it lies perfectly flat and square on your floor.
